Quote:The engineers have been hard at work again, and the 2010 Season 2 build will bring several exciting new features to the system, with an eye on several car enhancements. Drivers will be able to obtain these enhancements on a first-come, first-served basis during a race event. They will be made available at random intervals and on select locations on the track to encourage competitive driving.

"We're really proud of this release," said Dave Kaemmer. "It's certainly our best yet."

Updates have been made to the physics, including more improvements to the collision system. These improvements allow the cars to drive through and pick up the money bags randomly distributed on the track. We have instituted a system for corporate sponsorship, so even those not lucky on the track can obtain iRacing dollars on the side by uploading advertisements to be run during broadcast events. The garage has gotten an upgrade as well. You will be able to use the sweet moolah you have made to purchase items such as nitrous packs, smoke screens, oil slicks, and a particularly interesting weapon we'll only refer to as the green shell.

A new car and track are to be released just in time for 2010 Season 2 as well. We can't talk about the details just yet, but this car, while a bit primitive, will offer an exciting new challenge. To accelerate, the driver alternates between pressing down on the gas and brake. To stop, the driver presses down on both the gas and brake simultaneously. The new tire model was delayed, understandably, for the release of this car. "We had to take into account stone wheels the entire length of the vehicle. It's a completely different performance characteristic," said Steve Myers. "With the simultaneous release of our new track, Bedrock Park, our members are sure to have a yabba-dabba-doozy of a time."

A few items didn't quite make it into the build, but are slated for release later in the season. These include finally removing the coefficient of friction of grass in the sim. "We've been coddling the drivers too long. It's still possible to stop, but we've been reducing the friction a little with every build. Our plan has it phased out by mid-season," said Kaemmer. Also in the works, but not quite ready for prime-time, are cruise-control, aero updates for jumping from ramps, and car horns with custom audio.
