With the launch of a new official website, new fears about Tiago Monteiro's unconfirmed spot at the Midland-owned MF1 Racing team have arisen.

Not only is the Portuguese driver missing from the team profile section, unlike confirmed driver Christijan Albers, his backers - including 'Galp' - is not featured in the sponsor area.

Estranho porque o carro da midland nos testes de inverno e ja com as novas cores tinha o patrocinio de Portugal.... por acaso o da galp n tinha...

Tiago Monteiro has confirmed that he will be in England this Friday. Usually, that would not be interesting news, but the Silverstone-based MF1 team is set to launch its 2006 Grand Prix car. And Monteiro, unlike likely team-mate Christijan Albers, has not yet been officially nominated as a race driver.

“Tiago Monteiro and Albers will be present as the wraps proudly come off the new M16,” read a statement of the Portuguese driver's PR team.

The information coincides with the Midland-owned team's praise of customer engine supplier Toyota. Sporting director Adrian Burgess called the Cologne based outfit's service 'second to none'.

After a winter of rather dull uncertainty with the team refusing to say a deal was done and the driver saying he would certainly be driving, MF1 Racing has finally confirmed Portugal's Tiago Monteiro. What remains unclear is why the charades were necessary but one must presume that this was due to the fact that the money was not in the bank. Having said that, this does not compute when one considers that the team announced Nicky Pastorelli as its test driver but has since forgotten about him and signed several others.
