ArrayPractice One - Ferrari first and last in Belgium
Ferrari drew first blood in Fridays opening practice for the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps, but while one of their cars was fastest the other was slowest.
Kimi Raikkonen set the fastest lap of 1m 47.339s to head the McLarens of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton (1m 47.881s and 1m 47.994s), but Felipe Massas F2007 speared off the road at Rivage (Turn 8) after only two laps and the Brazilian was left stranded in the gravel without a time.
As expected, BMW Sauber and Williams also looked strong, with Nick Heidfeld fourth and Nico Rosberg fifth on 1m 48.052s and 1m 48.372s respectively. Their team mates were with them, with Robert Kubica sixth on 1m 48.605s and Alex Wurz seventh on 1m 48.920s.
Toyotas Jarno Trulli, Renaults Heikki Kovalainen and Hondas Jenson Button completed the top 10, on 1m 48.994s, 1m 49.138s and 1m 49.330s respectively. Kovalainen was off the road twice, once in Les Combes and once at Blanchimont, without sustaining any damage.
Giancarlo Fisichella was 11th for Renault on 1m 49.380s, chased by Toyotas Ralf Schumacher (1m 49.548s), the Red Bulls of Mark Webber and David Coulthard (1m 49.894s and 1m 49.931s), Hondas Rubens Barrichello (1m 50.264s), Toro Rossos Sebastian Vettel (1m 50.482s), the amazingly evenly matched Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson (1m 50.640s and 1m 50.648s) for Super Aguri, and Adrian Sutil (1m 50.768s) in the Spyker.
Down the back with Massa were Tonio Liuzzi, whose Toro Rosso stopped at Rivage after he had lapped it in 1m 51.628s, and Sakon Yamamoto, whose Spyker stopped after a lap of 1m 52.379s.

ArrayRaikkonen looking strong at Spa!
Belgian GP - First practice
A half second advantage in first practice
Kimi Raikkonen dominated the opening practice session of the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, lapping the 7.004 KM circuit over half a second clear of his nearest rival. While it was a successful session for the 2005 race winner, Ferrari team-mate Felipe Massa did not manage to complete a timed lap.
Massa was an early casualty in the 90 minute session as his Ferrari seemed unable to turn right at Rivage. The F2007 bounced across the gravel trap at slow speed, nosing gently into the tyre barrier. Massa was soon out of the F2007 and would not play a part in the remainder of the session. It was almost certainly a mechanical issue rather than a driver error.
Back on track, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso led the way early on before Raikkonen exited the pits and put in a string of fast laps, the best being a 1:47.339s. Hamilton would end the session second fastest a tenth ahead of Monza winner Fernando Alonso.
Nick Heidfeld made up ground late in the session for BMW Sauber. Using the softer tyre available this weekend, he moved fourth fastest ahead of Nico Rosberg who was another to use the soft tyre on his Williams Toyota. Robert Kubica was sixth fastest ahead of Alex Wurz in the second Williams.
Jarno Trulli led the way for Toyota with the eighth fastest time ahead of Heikki Kovalainen in his Renault.

Kovalainen had one very wild moment as he ran wide at the flat out Blanchimont, but with the area now tarmac, rather than gravel, was able to return to the circuit without incident. Jenson Button rounded out the top ten in his Honda.
Giancarlo Fisichella set the 11th fastest time in the second Renault ahead of Ralf Schumacher and the Red Bull Renault duo of Mark Webber and David Coulthard. Rubens Barrichello was 15th fastest, a second off team-mate Button.
Sebastian Vettel was 16th fastest in his Toro Rosso Ferrari, while team-mate Tonio Liuzzi ran wide at Rivage and into the retaining tyre wall resulting in front left suspension damage. He would end the session classified in 20th position.
The Super Aguri Honda team struggled a little with Takuma Sato and Anthony Davidson 17th and 18th respectively ahead of Adrian Sutil in the leading Spyker Ferrari. Sakon Yamamoto pulled off track late in the session with a mechanical problem on his Spyker and was 21st and slowest.
