Fernando Alonso has been relegated to tenth place on the grid for tomorrow's Italian Grand Prix after race stewards ruled he had blocked Felipe Massa during Saturday afternoon's qualifying session. Alonso had qualified fifth after a difficult qualifying in which he suffered a puncture.
Stewards ruled that as Alonso had impeded Massa's final run at the end of qualifying as the Renault driver scrabbled to cross the line in order to get one extra attempt at pole. Alonso's official penalty was to have his three fastest laps deleted.
